SAMPLE TECHNIQUES
Knife Hand Strike The knife hand strike is more commonly known as the "karate chop." This popular hand position is one of the most powerful striking techniques in martial arts. It is performed by slightly bending your fingers and tensing the hand without letting the thumb separate from the hand. Contact with the fleshy outer part of the hand.
1. While walking home from soccer practice, Kelly decides to take a short cut through the local playground. She notices that a man is approaching her quickly. The man doesn't even speak to Kelly; just snatches her right arm with his left hand and tries to pull her into a wooded area.
2. Using her whole body, Kelly jerks her right arm away from the assailant.
3. She releases her right arm from his left hand and positions her arm and body to retaliate because she realizes that the man is determined to cause her harm.
4. Kelly aggresively steps back toward the man with her right leg and catapults a knife hand strike toward his neck with her right hand. The knife side of her hand makes hard contact with the right side of his nect, which hinders his breathing.
5. The explosive, surprising, well-placed knife hand strike knocks him off his feet, allowing Kelly to escape.
